From Deià village down to the Cove and back

The village of Deià to Deia Cove and back to the village of Deià The route begins in the village of Deià and descends to the cove of the same name. It follows a path along the coast to Llucalcari Cove and Then returns to the village of Deià.

Time: Approximately 3 hours Distance: Approximately 6 kilometres Difficulty: Easy The excursion begins at the entrance to the village of Deià, at kilometre 29 on the C-710 road from Valldemossa to Deià. Deià can be reached by bus. The trail descends to one of the village springs, where an old public washing trough can be found. From there, an irrigation ditch and an old watermill marks the beginning of the Dels Ribassos trail, which runs along the right-hand side of Torrent Major. Cross the torrent to reach a road that ends in steps leading directly to the cove. To the right of the cove is the start of the Alconasser trail, also called the painters' trail, thanks to its beautiful views, a magnet for artists. It leads to Llucalcari Cove, the site of the Canyaret springs, which produces a type of clay that is highly prized by nature-lovers. Another, much more difficult excursion begins at the spring, which climbs to the small hamlet of Llucalcari. Retrace the route to return toDeià. Places of interest: The village of Deià has been welcoming bohemian artists since the 1920's. Robert Graves, Mike Oldfield and Andrew Lloyd Webber all chose Deià as a refuge. There are quiet cafés, charming restaurants, art galleries and handicraft shops in the village. The cemetery of Deià, located at the village's highest point, offers views of the entire valley. La Foradada, an enormous stone with a hole in the centre, is one of the north coast's most striking and well-known sights. The small hamlet of Llucalcari, also known as Es Carrer. Desde el Hotel L´Hermitage seguimos la carretera en dirección Alaro unos 200 m. En el km 11,8 sale un camino señalizado con “Castell“. El ancho camino detrás de la puerta de hierro sube por un campo de olivos. Dejamos de lado un desvio a la derecha. Nuestro camino se convierte en un sendero estrecho con vistas al valle de Orient. Tras 15 min llegamos a la dura subida del Pla d´es Pouet. Tras un encinar llegamos a un camino al borde de la meseta, el cual tomaremos hacia la derecha. Llegaremos a un claro, en cuyo lado izquierdo mas elevado se encuentran los escalones del Cami de Castell d´Alaro que llevan a las ruinasdel Castell d´Alaro.

Desde el castillo hay un camino ancho que lleva a la Oratoria de Nostra Senyora del Refugi. Pasando por esta, alcanzamos en unos minutos la cima del Puig d´Alaro. Mas tarde bajaremos de nuevo de la ermita al castillo. En el cruce, algo por debajo del castillo, seguiremos el camino que baja en dirección “Alaro a peu“. Este transcurre primero recto y después gira bruscamente a la derecha hacia la finca Es Verger. Para regresar hacia Orient caminaremos a la izquierda desde el restaurante, subiendo por el Camino al Pla del Pouet. A unos 100 metros por encima de la finca el camino se adentra en el bosque y sube con muchas curvas hasta la meseta. Alli cruzaremos el aparcamiento del bosque, pasando la escalera de piedra, y regresaremos al valle de Orient.

From the Placa Camp de Vañol at Valldemossa we walk 250m on the roads towards Palma. In front of the manor house with the tower Son Gual the path runs through Carrer Almendros left uphill. At the end of the street we turn left again and the next road we turn right up to Ca ´n Massana. There we follow the chain locked path straiht ahead uphill. In front of the spring Font d´es Abureuda a carriage road turns off to the right, winding its way up to Pla d´es Pouet. After the clearing we keep to the red points marked path until we reach the fountain Font d´es Pouet. We walk straight ahead through the forest passing a charcoal burner´s place with an oven and come to the Mirador de Ses Piles.

Then the path marked a little insufficiently runs through an oak forest uphill, but the path is soon better marked by red points and yellow indicators. Soon the bridle-path of the archduke, made up by retaining walls, is better discernible. Shortly after we reach the peak of the Pouet (855m) marked by a square and a measuring point. Afterwards we follow the red points marked path to Coll Estret de Son Gallard (762m) downhill. On the pass there is a cross and we follow the bridle-path.

On the bridle-path we do not keep to the green indicator but walk left steeply uphill. Got to the steep face, the path runs close to the ridge towards the Caragoli´s peak which just protudes the plateau. Passing the descent to Deià and the Caragoli´s peak, we come to a valley with a pine forest. Before the forest we come to a junction, where we turn left. After another wooded hollow we reach another junction with a stone pyramid and we turn left. Shortly after we have to climb on all fours. Now we can already see the trigonometric column on the Teix (1064m). After having crossed Pla de Sa Serp (Snakes plain) we can chose between trail to the top of the Teix.

As they meet each other soon the ascent is no problem. Afterwards we have to take the same way back to the stone pyramid. From there we walk on the bridle-path left across a plateau and then to the Refugi d´es Cairats valley downhill. From the mountain cabin on we follow the broad, steep carriage road through the Cairats valley downhill. Passing Charcoal burner´s places , a lime kiln and a wooden door, we turn right at a junction and walk on this path up until Son Gual on the outskirts of Valldemossa.
